Today, I will come clean…

Ok.. it’s not something that I had done so drastically cause any harm to anyone or to my subscribers…. If someone is going to get hurt, it will be me…

It will be a long talk but if I don’t do it, I will never get over this hurdle.. believe me, I am not selling you any product or anything at all…

What I wanted to say today is about me and my Internet Marketing Journey.. the dos and the don’ts.. Many heard it but never realise it until they tried it out..

THIS POST IS ABOUT THE WHOLE TRUTH

I started my Internet Marketing out of no where. It begins with a free ticket to the Internet Summit in May this year in Singapore, not knowing that Internet Marketing exists but 4 days later, my perception changes about the Internet, something that I am NOT proud of…

From the speakers (very positive and good people), they proved to the audience again and again that making money online is NOT that difficult.. if: -

a. I follow a system

b. I am hardworking

c. I must be consistent

d. I must have patience.

e. I may need to over deliver to entice my readers.

f. I need to write articles to generate traffic

g. I need to subscribe to forum to make my website known and get traffic

I did not start immediately after the Summit but I took time to listen to the free MP3s for months before I decided to take action. I tested the methods in SecondLife (JT-inc.com), in anything that I could think of. I take note of all the advertisement and etc and what I had seen on the Internet. I realised that the market is unbelievable BIG!

One fine day, while I was at work, I was very frustrated and loaded with pressure and I surfed the net and happened to go to a website, SimplyRichSG.com.

It was run by fellow Singaporean, Irene Lim and she described herself as a housewife that can earn extra cash in Internet Marketing. I read every single word and at the end of the page, I decided to buy the product she was promoting by Mark Warren.

I got to a page asking me to upgrade to a premium user with many streams of income and I fall for it. I pay over hundreds of US dollar for my domain (joeteh.com) with a customised website done for me.

Well, truthfully speaking, I was quite disappointed as it has many limitation, nevertheless, very professionally done. I comfort myself to go to the members area to download all my tutorials and etc.  I was overloaded with Information and as I tried to read through the tutorials, it was so heavy (at least for me) and I decided not to read anymore.

So, after a few weeks, with rejection from Adsense saying that my website does not meet their criterias and after tweaking here and there, with a online support to the helpdesk, I still failed the criterias, I surfed the net and stumbled upon Ewen Chia’s website (Affiliate of the Month), I bought it and finished all the 30 over videos at a go and ensuring that I don’t miss out anything, I went through it one more time.

At that moment,  I decided to buy a Domain Name (that’s this domain name: marketingsecretsreviewed.com) after careful consideration that this website is going to review secrets and add value to the subscribers.. by promoting products that I had tested and help people from my past experiences and of course, applying the skills learnt from Affiliate of the Month. BTW, I also bought his Monster Response autoresponder system..

With my new website, it is like a new start. I work deligently on the website from the banners to everything, I .. without fail every night till 3 to 4am everyday…

I got my first subscriber on 23-Sep after setting up this website for 2 weeks. I was hyper happy. I decided that next step is to promote the sites with Craigslist, Adwords and article writing. True enough, more traffic to my site but subscriber sign up is still elusive… although I provide a free ereport.

I tweaked again and again and offer more things. Still subscriber is still minimum. I write my blog, update my readers with marketing information and new products but still not much progress.

One day, I went to Andrew Wee website as a courtesy visit as he taught me (on my joeteh.com website) on a few tips. He was happy that his website is actually in the Alexa radar scan (means less than 100,000 ranking). I decided to get myself a Alexa toolbar and track my record. From no data, my website ranks to 1.8 million, less than a million, 700 thousands and until today, it is at 465,111 and dropping every week.

I kept thinking to myself, what have I done wrong? There is NOT a single sales (which I think is normal as my branding is not there) and subscriber is trickling in …. really trickling in. I have done all the steps (or have I??), giving information to my subscribers on websites things that may interest them, becoming an Ezine Article Experts and etc.

I relooked my steps, read more newsletters, bought Russell Brunson’s 12 Month Internet Millionaire and listen to his 6hrs MP3 twice.

I realised my BIG BIG mistake..  thanks to my new website which I setup to quench my “thirst” to tell the world about Technology (techielobang.com). In this website, I spend my time telling my feelings about things and while showing some new technology, I add on my comments. I realised that I felt much, much better and people started to write comments (this website was setup on 17-Nov-07, my wedding anniversary).

I realised that this should be the way.. show the people and put in my personal comments instead of text book answers. I rethink of what was mentioned by Gurus in the Internet Summit, in the audio recordings and on books (Yes, I bought Stuart Tan’s Secrets of Internet Millionaires)..

ALL OF THEM WERE TELLING ME TO BE MYSELF, PROVIDE TRUST TO THE PEOPLE, PROVIDE GOOD INFORMATION.

This hit me hard on my head.. And that’s why I have written this Super, Super long post…

From now onwards, I will be myself. Watch for the new me and if you trust me enough, subscribe to my newsletter and let’s share information…

Internet Marketing is always evolving but of course, certain mindsets cannot be changed (value for customers, subscribers, charity and etc.. plus the determination that one will make it!)
